Getting a robot to walk in Gazebo

I have a robot (designed in SolidWorks) that I have imported into Gazebo. Now, I want the robot the perform interesting tasks (i.e. walk) What are the steps to make this happen?

I have a humanoid robot which is rather complicated...

if you have wheel robot, and you are using ros, then there is one convenient way to accomplish such task.
