2015-10-31 12:30:58 -0500 marked best answer tutorial/1.4/beginner/build world problem with saving

Hi,

Thanks for your help in advance :)

I've installed gazebo 1.4 from source on a gentoo machine.

I created a world and placed some static objects in it. I then deleted a couple of the objects and then saved the world file and closed gazebo. When I restarted gazebo with the saved world, the objects I deleted were still there. It happened both the times I tried it.

Also, when I start gazebo, I get some unfamiliar messages and I'm not sure what they mean:

Hi,

I'm using gazebo 1.2.5 in gentoo linux. When I run gazebo with default world and add a cylinder and uncheck the cast_shadow property in somewhere in the link section of the cylinder, it causes gazebo to crash with the following error message:

Exception [Publisher.cc:79] Publishing and uninitialized message on topic[/gazebo/default/model/modify]. Required field [link[0].visual[0].name] missing.

Qt has caught an exception thrown from an event handler. Throwing exceptions from an event handler is not supported in Qt. You must reimplement QApplication::notify() and catch all exceptions there.

It happens every time. GDB shows no backtrace.

Thanks.

2015-10-31 12:30:52 -0500 marked best answer just a suggestion about links on this website

Hi,

Just a suggestion: it would be useful to have links to the gazebo web site and wiki on this web site as well. Quite often I want to go to one of the other sites and I have to use my bookmarks. This is not really much of a bother, but I thought it would be useful to have links between the sites.

Thanks.

2015-10-31 12:30:43 -0500 marked best answer gazebo-1.4 with player example - errors

Hi,

I'm trying to get player to work with gazebo to control a pioneer robot. I used the example provided with gazebo-1.4 in the examples/player/position2d folder. Here are the problems I encountered:

  1. The .world was in the old sdf format, so I tried using gzsdf to convert it. gzsdf failed because the filename did not end with .sdf. So after the renaming the world file, it worked.

  2. Player was able to connect to gazebo and playerv opened its window, but when I tried to subscribe to position2d it gave the following error:

Today I tried to install gazebo from the dev branch, and it fails at the compile stage because it can't find urdf related files. So do I now have to install the ROS system to get Gazebo working? How do I proceed?

Thanks.

2013-05-30 14:02:04 -0500 asked a question trouble building gazebo_pkgs for ROS integration

Hi,

I have Gazebo 1.8.0 installed on my GNU/Linux Gentoo machine and ROS Groovy. I've been meaning to use ROS to drive my Gazebo simulation, so I am eager to get ROS Groovy integration with Gazebo working. I've been using the instructions on this page as a guide.

The command I used to build all my ROS packages is $ sudo ./src/catkin/bin/catkin_make_isolated --install-space /opt/ros/groovy --cmake-args -DSETUPTOOLS_DEB_LAYOUT=OFF and all the ROS packages compiled without errors. I then used the command $ catkin_make_isolated --install and it installed nearly all the packages to my preferred location. It fails at the package gazebo_ros and gives the following error:

2013-03-20 12:26:03 -0500 asked a question Model falls through heightmap terrain

Hi,

I'm using gazebo 1.5 on gentoo linux. I installed it from dev branch about a month ago.

When I create a terrain using a heightmap and try to insert a model onto it, the model falls through the terrain and out of sight. I've tried it with the pioneer robots and with various other models - same result. However, with the Brickbox, Bookshelf, and Cabinet, they stay where I put them. I don't know how to solve this problem.

Hi, anybody else getting this problem for the dev branch? I just ran hg update today and installed fresh from source, and after typing "gazebo" at the prompt it is waiting indefinitely at this point.

ps. This has been happening since before the weekend.
