Converting 3D model file (VRML or ProE) to URDF

This post is a wiki. Anyone with karma >75 is welcome to improve it.

I currently have a 3D model in both VRML and ProE, and I would like to convert these models into URDF format to display in gazebo ROS. Is there a plugin or a recommended way of converting VRML to URDF or ProE to URDF while retaining all of the correct assembly information?
