Simple open/close operation (ROS)

Hello, is it possible to perform a simple open/close operation via ROS-control or is it necessary to implement a joint controller and all that stuff. Or is there a simpler option for a movement which has only to move between two positions?

I'm guessing the reason no one has attempted to answer this is because it is VERY vague. You may need to reconstruct your question.
