Can I use an xacro for a world file?

I'm looking to use xacro to define a world file, which can change based on some parameters via roslaunch. I've defined a xacro which compiles to a valid sdf world. Can I pass the xacro file directly to Gazebo, especially with parameters, or do can I only pass an XML file?
