What are some detailed wheeled robot projects?

I am looking for inspiration to how to implement a wheeled robot project to get a physically precise robot behavior on different types of surfaces. So the friction, springiness, contact with the ground and so on must be precisely set, possibly some custom plugins are implemented to allow for certain phenomena in the first place.

Can you point me to a project like that?
