Why is the groundplane offset from the ground in Gazebo?

I'm a bit confused why the ground plane seems to be offset from the floor in my Gazebo simulation, as shown below (highlighted by the green square):

Could anyone suggest how I can move this back to the floor that everything else is sitting on?

The green square represents a directional light, usually called "sun". It's not the floor 😉
