Adding gaussian noise to ray sensor crashes Gazebo 11

I am a new user to Gazebo. I am currently following the Intermediate tutorials on Lidar. I can successfully use the ray sensor without noise, but when I insert the sensor after adding gaussian noise Gazebo 11 crashes with no message. It also crashes when I include the ray sensor in this tutorial: http://gazebosim.org/tutorials?tut=sensor_noise&cat=sensors

When I change the noise type from "gaussian" to "none", Gazebo 11 does not crash.
