Check installed SDF version

Hello, I'm using Gazebo-7 and need some parameters which are not supported in SDF version 1.4 hence, I want to upgrade to version 1.6. Changing the sdf version tag

didn't change a thing so the question popped up, where to check which version is installed and how can I update it?
