Is it possible to simulate only one single step?

Hello everyone! I am trying to do a simulation in gazebo using matlab and ros. I do my calculation on matlab and then i call the pause and unpause ros service for gazebo to simulate the robot with the new commands. In this way, unfortunately, I can't decide how long the simulation between the unpause and pause command lasts. Is there a method to simulate just one single step of the gazebo engine? Thank you all!
