Yes, re-install fixed the problem. It must be my own error as others have not experienced this. I will keep an eye out for any similar problems. thanks for your investigation. Do I need to credit you or close the question?

sudo apt-get autoremove gazebo4, removed a lot. Reinstalled gazebo 1.9 as before and have many errors. I am redoing a fresh install of ROS hydro and gazebo 1.9, hopefully no errors, I will report.

2014-09-17 14:54:50 -0500 commented answer libgazebo_transport.so.4: cannot open

trying sudo apt-get autoremove gazebo4. reinstalling gazebo 1.9 now. Perhaps gazebo4 is automatically installed with hydro full desktop install.

2014-09-17 13:48:01 -0500 commented answer libgazebo_transport.so.4: cannot open

not intentional. perhaps this was unintentionally installed during my first install, not sure how. What is the proper way to remove gazebo4? Should I remove it and my current install, then reinstall gazebo 1.9, or may I be able to just remove gazebo4 without an uninstall of 1.9?

2014-09-17 10:06:00 -0500 asked a question libgazebo_transport.so.4: cannot open

Did uninstall and reinstall of gazebo 1.9 source. Running hydro, ubuntu 12.04.

Tried launching pioneer3at demo_navigation_gmapping.launch and received the following error:

/home/daniel/ros/hydro/catkin/devel/lib/pioneer3at/gazebo_bridge: error while loading shared libraries: libgazebo_transport.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I could not locate the file: libgazebo_transport.so.4

Where is this file suppose to live?

Thanks for investigating scpeters. Do you suggest I try a reinstall? Though, this will not be so helpful for the next lad that confronts this same problem, which could be me again.

It looks like a similar error for rosrun gazebo_ros gazebo and roslaunch gazebo_ros empty_world.launch

2014-09-11 04:20:30 -0500 asked a question How to start gazebo using roscore & rosrun gazebo_ros gazebo?

I am unable to start gazebo with the following command:

roscore & rosrun gazebo_ros gazebo

this produces the following:

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc' what(): std::bad_alloc

Yet, I am able to start gazebo using roscore, gzserver and gzclient in separate terminals. Running ROS hydro, ubuntu 12.04. P.S. Also posted this on ROS forum here: link text

roslaunch gazebo_ros empty_world.launch

For backtrace I type:

gdb gzserver empty_world.launch

Then the following appears:
